Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. The role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing. The health visitors are based at Fairlawn's but have regular meetings with the doctors here.

District Nurses

The community district nursing team still supports our practice, even though they are not based here. Kathyrn Acaster is the team leader, and Bernadette Smith is the community matron.

Mental Health Sessions

The doctor may refer you to one of our Primary Care Mental Health Workers who may see you to assess your mental health needs, and what help you may benefit from.

Smoking Cessation

This service is provided on a 1-1 basis with a trained smoking advisor. Referrals are given by your GP, or you can self-refer.

Interpreting Services

The practice has access to the Language Line service, an interpreting service supported by NHS Sheffield. All of the interpreters that work for this service have been through a vigorous recruitment and selection process.

How to Book an Interpreter

Our receptionists are responsible for booking interpreters and you should ask for an interpreter at the time you book your appointment. Wherever possible you should give at least five days’ notice of your need to see a GP or practice nurse as this will allow a suitable interpreter to be located. We cannot guarantee the services of an interpreter with less than five days’ notice.

We do not advise that relatives or friends interpret during consultations. The practice feels it is inappropriate to ask children to provide an interpreting service.

Although telephone interpreting is sometimes available to the practice it is not always considered appropriate therefore is not recommended.
